A graffiti artist who bragged about spray painting throughout Detroit the silhouette of Beavis — a cartoon character from the offbeat ’90s show Beavis and Butt-Head — faces felony charges for his work, the Detroit Police Department said.
“Of course our department got wind of this information and we had detectives work tirelessly to find him and apprehend him for such offenses,” Detroit police Sgt. Daron Zhou said. “It’s still an ongoing investigation. We know he (is behind) several incidents in the city and we’re still looking at maybe a couple more cases that may be part of his repertoire.”
Bryan Herrin goes by the moniker BVIS, Zhou said. He allegedly spray painted Beavis’ face on the bridge at Eight Mile and Interstate-75 as well as other places.
Detroit Metro Times wrote about Herrin’s drawings in April, identifying him as BVIS.
Herrin told the outlet he can draw Beavis’ face from muscle memory after many years of doodling the character. He estimated he had drawn “like, thousands” of them in the city and Metro Detroit.
Herrin said the character brings happiness. He was charged with six counts of malicious destruction of property in 36th District Court, records show.
Zhou said graffiti “affects the beauty of the city” and costs money to clean.
